I Never Knew

Growing up, we ate lots of abalone -- usually sliced and sauted, and sometimes sliced and in soups. Never in my imagination did I think that they looked like this:

Gorging

Sometimes when I don't keep an eye on Enn, this happens -->

And when confronted, she gives me the same guilty sheepish look that the baby gives when caught sinkling off of her pad.

Still, what to do. Enn's a horrible little gorger.

Celebrity Look-Alike

The baby knows how cute and beautiful she can be, even in her sleep. For example, today while taking her midday nap, the baby took the opportunity to demonstrate her uncanny resemblence to Audrey Hepburn -- yes, that one, she of the long graceful neck:

b.r. 4/3/08

the baby was very excited to exit the bedroom this morning. the sun was shining which meant that she got to engage in one of her favorite pastime, that is lounging and lolling in the sun. however, the baby insisted on playing before relaxing so we played fetch for a while. i think the baby likes to do this to get the juices running because as is her wont she stopped in the middle of a return and ran off to do some sinkling. afterwards, she very graciously let me clean her marshmallow; post-dabbing we returned to our game.

a short while later i fed the baby the remainder of the chickum which i intermixed among kibble. tricky baby of course picked out all the chickum and then ran off to the b-room and let out a little yump. while it was a clean execution, the baby did deposit a reddish dollop of mucous just outside the boundaries of her pad. all this of course while i was in the showee. of course not trusting the baby's hygiene i ran out of the showee dripping wet to check her bottom and to clean up her morning deposits.

when i left the baby she was alternating between her pillow in the sun and the floor just outside the reach of the sun. i sometimes think that she must be honoring her techichi roots by being such a little sun-worshipper. then again, she may be seeing imaginary butterflies for all i know.

A Love Letter

The baby was very playful today. She woke up in a good mood and did her business first thing. Her yump wasn't perfect, still a bit mucous-y. Unfortunately for me, her clean-up crew of one, the baby wasn't shy about spreading her the fruits of her discomfort around. However, even with such obvious signs of stummy discomfort, the baby woke up to play. I think that's why she agreed to pose for the following, which she'd like to dedicate to her fans:

B.R. 4/1/08

The baby had me concerned today because although she sinkled throughout the day, she did not have a yump despite having had several meals of chickum and rice. One wondered what became of all that chickum and rice. Anyway, her usual routine is to sinkle and yump upon waking. Today, she sinkled but did not yump first thing, though she did come in a couple of times while I was in the shower to sniff at her pad. Alas, the baby did not commit then and did not commit anytime this morning. Upon my return this evening, I saw that she still had not yumped, and this made me a bit worried as I wondered whether she was 1) impacted or 2) left me a secret present somewhere soon-to-be-discovered. At first I thought I had smelled a present, but luckily it turned out to be the rotty garbee that I had yet to throw out. In any case the baby seemed otherwise healthy and happy, and her stummy did not make any funny sounds. All this added up to a happy baby and therefore a happy muhmuh. The baby did finally yump after sher ravenously consuming her chickum and rice dinner. She does love her chickum and rice.

Something else the baby loves... her toys.

Note her possessive paws -- two at once:

B.R. 3/31/08

The baby was not feeling up to snuff today and has been lounging around all morning. Understandably considering she was bothered throughout the night with bouts of mucousy, bloody poo and one bout of hacking barf. Luckily the baby has not had either this morning and has been resting in her self-made nests. Due to the baby's sad condition she has not been eating her food, though she did deign to eat some gently nuked chicken that her muhmuh tore up and fed to her by hand. When she does feel like eating, there will be some chicken and rice awaiting her. In the meantime she's sleeping like the baby that she is and dreaming of heaven knows whut. Happily though, I do believe that the baby is feeling a wee bit better as even in her dreary state she's managed to pose when the moment called for it -- however sleepy-eyed:

taking inventory

well this morning the baby was a bit distraught because mommy did not come home last night. she didn't know what to do with herself but take inventory of her toys while i was in the shower.

"don't get too close to my toys!"

later she took a nap w/ me on the couch. at first i thought this was sweet, but then i realized it's just another way of her taking inventory. by sleeping up against ppl, she can be sure that they are not going anywhere!

the baby likes to sleep between me and the back of the couch. i have to be very careful not to squish her.

this is the face she makes when i roll over her little leggies.

the baby shows off her beauty mark. what an uncanny resemblance to marilyn monroe!

she can BEAR-ly stand it!

you spin me right round, baby right round
like a record baby
right round, round round

where's mommy?

well, olive's mommy is about to take off on her transcontinental+transpacific flight, and olive is hoping to catch a glimpse of her in the air. that is, if she has figured out yet that mommy hasn't just taken a short trip to key food.

she settled herself on the window sill just like so.

then she started looking around like a crazy person. so not quite sure if she was looking for mommy's airplane or looking for the other piaps whose voices she hears around her.

"arf, arf... the paint cans are after you... they want to harm you..."
"woof! there are demons hiding in jenn's backpack..."

in her confusion, she gave a not so photogenic look.

nonetheless, we plan to party our little white socks off in mommy's absence. off to key food to buy some corn chiyups and tequila!

Pampered Pups

So I finally got myself to the Westminster Dog Show. What a zoo. I think the people to dog ratio was at least 5:1 if not more. Good thing the pups are so terrific cuz the people are not. It's like Filene's during its annual bridal sale. Anyway, here are some of the pups -- and maybe it's the fact that none of them have been spayed or neutered but there are some big azz dogs there, even the little ones:

Imagine a Chinese-crested that's 40-50lbs

Strange? Well, check out the Peruvian Inca Orchid -- a sight hound bred from the times of the Incas:

I've been remiss

I admit it. I could blame it on end of the year holiday/work/personal blah blahs, including adopting a dog, etc., etc. I'll be better, promise.

However, stuff like this makes me want to hibernate until the economy warms up again:

Who knew?

Evidently the Oxford Dictionary has this thing where anoints a new "word of the year". I'm not sure what the nomination and selection process consist of, but I can't imagine it's as exciting as what happens in Celine's dressing room.

Anyway, without further ado, the word of the year is: locavore. Personally, I would've liked to see "cougar" as the winner.

Who let the dogs out?

I don't know what to say about this:

Let's catch you up...

So it's been a couple of wks since my last post, so to fill you in on what I've been up to, here's a little show and tell:

Enn, Ephanie, Vix, L and I braved the Staten Island and made our way to the wilds of NJ, also known as Six Flags Wild Safari. There, we watched idiots try to entice wild animals into their cars and watched lazy animals watching us.

This is right after the giraffes spotted a keeper driving with their feed. They all took off like they were late for a party:

Here's a mother and three cubs. What you can't see are kajillion flies zipping around these bears. Not so cute, but I like the electric fence. It's a good touch.

Then we hopped next door and got on some rides. I got a little motion sick after my second loopy ride and broke out in cold sweat. So the prospect of getting on this was not so pleasing, but clearly not everyone felt this way:

Then last wknd there was the annual Halloween dog parade at the dog run at Thompkins Sq Park. I don't know who looked sillier, all the dogs in ridic outfits or the mass of people milling about.

Here are two of my favorites from that day:

That's it. La la. Show over. Go home.
